Her family first settled in Buffalo, New York where the last child was born, then moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Martha was a music teacher who never married and lived with her other two single sisters, Anna and Elise, in later life. 174 | Obitaury - Windsor Star DEVANTIER, Borge Otto 91, (former resident of Belle River), passed away peacefully January 3, 2018 in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Born in Svendborg, Denmark to Otto and Asta Devantier on January 22, 1926, Borge immigrated to Newmarket, Ontario with his wife and young family in 1957, where he worked as an auto mechanic. In 1970, Borge took a position in the technical department at Belle River District High School. He loved teaching and spent 20 happy years in the auto shop, and as a driver's ed instructor and as a coach for the Nobles team handball and soccer teams, prior to his retirement in 1989. Borge is survived by his dear wife Edith, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage and five children Jan (Karen), Erik (Janine), Leif, Allan (Nathalie) and Yvonne (Holly). Borge was very proud of his thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and family and friends will gather for a memorial service in June 2018 at Sunset Villa, Puslinch, Ontario (details to follow). He was 68. The son of the late Paul and Dorothy Hebbard DeVantier, he was born October 11, 1949 in Callicoon, NY. Pete was an icon of the Roscoe community; he began his role as the co-owner of the Roscoe Lumber Yard in 1984; he had been awarded the Town of Rockland Pride Award through the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce; was a member and past assistant chief of the Roscoe-Rockland Fire Department and had also been a fire commissioner; additionally, he was a two-time Roscoe-Rockland Fireman of the Year in 1982 and 2009. Pete was a multisport athlete and coach for the Roscoe Central School District; and he coached basketball for 17 years, softball, and track & field. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Langan DeVantier, at home; three sons, Peter “Jr” DeVantier and his wife Jennifer of Roscoe, NY, Kevin DeVantier and his wife Amber of DeWitt, NY, and Daniel DeVantier of Oneonta, NY; one daughter, Taylor DeVantier of Roscoe, NY; two sisters, Joan Stephenson and her husband Jim of Roscoe, NY and Jackie France and her husband Terry of Roscoe, NY; five granddaughters, Lydia, Melany, Kennidy, Rori and Finley. 177 | Obituary from Find a Grave --------------------- Gordon D. Lund, age 80, of Adell, died December 27, 2009 at Froedert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee. He was born July 16, 1929 in Stanley, WI, a son of the late Carl and Florence (Newlon) Lund. Gordon served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948 in Japan. Gordon was married to Delores Van der Jagt on July 16, 1949. On December 13, 1976 he married Arlene Schultz Born at Community UCC in Elkhart Lake. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in West Bend. Gordy loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He will be remembered mostly for the time spent with his loving family. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; three sons, Dale Lund of Newton, Dean (Lei) Lund of Elkhart Lake, Randy (Camie) Lund of Plymouth; two daughters, Sandra (John) O'Malley of Oregon, WI, Joanne (Daniel) Lau of Plymouth. 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (Edward) Setzer and Mary Ann (Joe) Licht, both of Sheboygan; one brother, Donald Lund. He came to the United States with his mother, Marie Devantier Schulz, and nine siblings on the Hammonia in August of 1869. The family first settled in Buffalo, New York where an eleventh child was born, then moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Paul married Nettie Maude Barren in October 18, 1887 in Cleveland, Ohio. After having four sons in Cleveland, Ohio, the family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where Paul became the superintendent of the rolling mills of the Bethlehem Steel Company. 186 | RUTH MARIE AUMANN SCHOCK A memorial service for Ruth Marie Schock, 90, of Livonia, will be held June 1 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. Mrs. Schock was born Jan. 15, 1912 in Detroit and died May 13 [2002] at The Lutheran Home-Livonia, where she became their first resident. Mrs. Schock was one of eight children who were raised on the second floor of the parents' Aumann Bakery on Mack Avenue in Detroit. She graduated from Eastern High School. Subsequently, she earned a bachelor of arts with distinction from The City College of The City of Detroit (later known as Wayne State University), and a Life Certificate to teach in the Public Schools of Michigan. Mrs. Schock was baptized and confirmed by Rev. Philip Bohn of Concordia Lutheran Church. Throughout several of her high school and college years she taught Sunday School at Concordia. She majored in music at The City College. As a portion of her degree requirements she frequently ushered for numerous concerts of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Orchestra Hall. She taught in many Detroit elementary schools, vocal music classes for over 10 years, and after approximately 25 years of full-time vocal music teaching at McGregor Elementary School in Detroit, she finally retired from the Detroit Public School system. She enjoyed classical music, opera, and attending symphony orchestra concerts, particularly those DSO (Children's Symphony Concerts) which introduced her students to symphonic and classical music. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Herbert E. Schock. Survivors include son, Dr. Charles C. Schock of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Dr. Norville H. Devantier, Tarampa Estate, and the bride Miss Terese Kamp, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs R Kamp, Tarampa (writes ourTarampa correspondent). The ceremony was performed by the Rev Wallatt in the presence of a large gathering of invited guests. The bride wore a costume of silk volienne trimmed with silk insertion and arranged with satin rosettes and buttons. The bridesmaids were Miss Lily Kamp, sister of the bride, (chief) and Miss Lizzy Devantier, each of whom wore a very becoming toilette. Mr F Devantier was best man, and Mr F Kamp groomsman. The latter also played the wedding hymn and march on the Church organ. After the service the party drove to the residence of the brides parents, where the wedding breakfast was served. Pastor Wallatt, who presided, proposed the toast of the bride and bridegoom. The toast was accorded musical honours and a number of congratulatory speeches were afterwards made. Our Capella correspondent writes: ?A very pretty wedding was celebrated at the Church of Holy Spirit, Capella, by the Rev. G. E. Wheeler, rector of All Saint's Church, Clermont. The contracting parties were Bertha Elizabeth, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Stevens, and Arthur Rudolph, second youngest son of Mr. H. Devantier and the late Mrs. Devantier, of Red Gate, Murgon. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, who gave her away, and the hymn, "Lead Us Heavenly Father," as sung by the congregation. She looked charming in a white mariette frock, with Chantilly lace inlet in the sleeveless bodice in scallops,and with diamante trimming studdedround the neck. The skirt was composed of Chantilly lace with scallops of mariette and a circle of orange blossoms on the left side of skirt. The belt was held in position with a diamante buckle. She wore a lovely wreath and veil (lent by Mrs. Geaghan, a friend of the bride), arranged in the mob cap effect and studded across the front with seeded pearls,which were continued and held in position under the chin. She carried a beautiful bouquet of stephanotis and lilies of the valley veiled in tulle and tied with tulle streamers. She was attended by her sister, Miss Cloddie, as bridesmaid, who wore a frock of pink crepe de Chine, with a bodice inlet with a yoke of silk lace and six frills of silk lace on the skirt. She carried a bouquet of bebe roses veiled in tulle and tied with streamers of tulle. Mr. K. Conway was bestman. As the bridal party were leaving the church Mrs. F. Webb played the Wedding March.The bridal party afterwards adjourned to the Commercial Hotel, where the wedding breakfast was held. The room was tastefully decorated with pink and white streamers and a beautiful wedding bell was suspended over the bridal couple. The usual toasts were honoured.The presents were numerous and costly. The bride's travelling dress was of blue crepe de Chine; she also wore a mastic hat.
