He died on July 22, 1897 in Seattle, Washington, USA, but is buried with his wife in the Riverside Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a Prussian career officer while living in Prussia. He emigrated from Bremen, Germany on the Ariel and arrived in New York on September 23, 1868. His wife, Marie Devantier Schulz, and ten children came to join him the following year in August of 1869. He and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio after an eleventh child was born in Buffalo, New York. He was a civil engineer who built bridges in Ohio. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States on March 13, 1876.

Notes - Paul August Rudolph Friedrich Wilhelm Schulz. He was born on September 8, 1857 in Kolberg, Prussia. He came to the United States with his mother, Marie Devantier Schulz, and nine siblings on the Hammonia in August of 1869. The family first settled in Buffalo, New York where an eleventh child was born, then moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Paul married Nettie Maude Barren in October 18, 1887 in Cleveland, Ohio. After having four sons in Cleveland, Ohio, the family moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania where Paul became the superintendent of the rolling mills of the Bethlehem Steel Company. Paul Schulz died on December 22, 1933 in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania and is buried in the Nisky Hill Cemetery in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
